A Brief History of Podcasting
Much has been written about the origins of podcasting, and much of that history is mired
in reports of bitter rivalries and disputed credits. Generally, Dave Winer, a software
developer and an author of the RSS format, and former MTV VJ Adam Curry are
recognized as the originating force behind the podcasting phenomenon. 
In October 2003, approximately two years following Winer’s first incorporation of media
file downloading capabilities into RSS, Curry helped popularize this little-used
functionality with the introduction of the script RSStoiPod. The RSStoiPod script offered
readers of Curry’s weblog (blog) the ability to harvest MP3 files from an RSS feed and
transfer them directly into iTunes. The files could then be copied from iTunes to an iPod
