The supercardioid polar pattern
Hypercardioid
Like the cardioid and supercardioid patterns, the primary sensitivity of the
hypercardioid is in the front of the microphone. However, hypercardioid mics are
even more directional than cardioid and supercardioid microphones. Because of their
ability to target specific sounds and reject ambient noise, these mics are often used
in the movie business to record dialogue.
The hypercardioid polar pattern
Omnidirectional
Mics with this pattern pick up sounds equally from all directions. These microphones
are best suited for recording a group of people or ambient sound.
