Virtual Mixing

In this age of digital recording, you may choose to forego an outboard mixer and

manipulate your audio right on your computer. For example, PreSonus’ Inspire 1394

FireWire Audio Interface ($199.95) comes with an easy-to-use software mixer called the

Control Panel. The Control Panel is not an actual piece of hardware, but a “virtual” mixer

that appears on a computer screen and allows the user to manipulate the controls with a

mouse.
